over the years, I made sketches of Boyd for reference. The following drawings 1) aren’t very talented, 2) were meant to be a general idea for myself and Sonny, and 3) are semi-canon, in that they were ways of referencing canon things for myself BUT doesn’t mean anything had to look exactly the way I drew it. The fonts may be different on things, the exact positioning of this or that may change, and if people had a different view of him in their mind, then they aren’t wrong, either.
Below the cut contains spoilers through Fade chapter 7.
Scars and tattoos:
Originally done 9/8/2009 or (most likely) earlier– two ways I imagined Boyd’s shoulder tattoos could be done. It could be different fonts:
2/14/2010– A drawing I did when I knew Boyd was going to get a tongue piercing. I couldn’t label him as Boyd at the time, as that would have been a spoiler since we were still writing Interludes or Afterimage at the time. So I labeled it Cameron, since at that time no one knew that would be his undercover name:
Below are two representations I made years ago as one way of imagining the scars on Boyd’s chest. But, really, it wouldn’t look exactly like this. I just wanted a very basic, initial visual to use, with the assumption that it would get refined over time. Which might mean fewer scars or different types. Oh, and the first one is of one of the photos I found of Boyd Holbrook at the time.
9/27/2010– Another sketch, this time of Boyd after he’d returned home but when he still looked like Cameron:
12/31/2011– from an age meme I did for Boyd at deviantart. PS: I know his left arm is at a weird angle but at the time I wanted to sketch his tattoo.
I had a rough sketch of how I initially imagined the tree tattoo looked, drawn on a sticky note stuck above my computer for years. Then I moved and I have no idea where it went, and I can’t seem to find a copy on my computer. If I ever find it, I’ll post it.
The tree tattoo shown above is a very rough sketch. The actual tattoo is much more intricate, much cooler, and probably looks different.
I also had a sketch of the Cyclone brand, and the Hsin/Xin mark over it, but of course I’ve lost that as well. For reference, here’s an updated sketch of his back, probably minus all sorts of scars collected over the years as an agent:
A native speaker or anyone who’s learned Japanese/Chinese lately probably could draw the character much better than I can.
