Behind the scenes, research: Fade chapter 9

Below is a set of notes I sent to Sonny in 2010 while we were writing Fade chapter 9. This is being included here as an example of some of the behind the scenes research we did when we got the chance, to try to make things as accurate as possible for the locations, dates, and times when the various scenes were set.

nts: saying it’s about feb 11-12, 2024 — http://www.ageastrology.com/index.php?yy=2024

btw im geeking out on this.

apparently its exactly 12 hours difference between Harbin and PA. Harbin is 12 hours ahead.

Local time in Pennsylvania (PA):

9:13 PM on Tuesday, May 4, 2010

Local time in Harbin, China:

9:13 AM on Wednesday, May 5, 2010

also, here are the specific sunrises and sunsets for both locations on Feb 10 and Feb 11 2024. I already had chosen Feb 11 as the date in China because I looked up the moon to make that accurate for when I was describing stuff.

Pennsylvania, USA:

Date Sunrise  Sunset
Feb 10, 2024 7:00 AM 5:30 PM

Harbin, China:

Date Sunrise  Sunset
Feb 11, 2024 6:43 AM 4:53 PM

so since we had China at night and I just always imagined this apartment scene happening at night or at least when it’s darker out, what do you think about saying:

China mission ended about 6 AM on Feb 11. still dark. they flew back. it’s a 12 hr 46 min flight, so about 13 hours. they got back in the states at 5 PM on Feb 10. then there was 1/2 an hour or so of reports and such.

so the sun could be setting about now?

or we could say it was 6:30 am when they finished in China, got back at 5:30 pm, took another half hour or so, so now it’s 6 pm on Feb 10 and it’s dark out.

what do you think?
